Think Pinterest but for all the things in your shopping wishlist. It's an essential for the shopaholic.
I am an avid window shopper. I love scrolling through websites and browsing in-store to see new collections and Want Locker fuels the addiction. It feels like another version of Pinterest with the ability to create different collections on your profile and make collages.
How it works:
Want Locker is essentially a Chrome browser extension that connects to your profile on their website. When browsing through online stores, if you see something that catches your eye, you can click the extension icon and save it to your profile in any of the collections you created. Then when you go back to the website and/or app it's all there!
The company recently launched an app version, so whether you're shopping on your laptop or phone, you can continue to save all the things and cultivate your wishlists.
Connect & Inspire!
Another aspect I love about Want Locker is the ability to follow other users and see what they're shopping. When you go on their homepage there's a section labeled "shopper spotlights" and you can see some highlighted users and popular collections. This gives me the chance to find further inspiration and even discover new brands.
I love that you can also create collages, and see how other people would style certain things. I think this is a great way to diversify the use of Want Locker. I find myself not just going on it when I'm online shopping, but also to see what everyone is finding and is inspired by.
The Locker team also continuously creates their own collections, based on what is in demand by customers. I think it's super cool that they also create them based on aesthetic. When you look in fashion magazines, most will have these small edits on shopping picks for specific events or seasons -- Want Locker has found a way to digitize this and make it automatically shoppable. For example, right now there's a collection curated by the Locker Team called "The European Summer Edit" and it has picks from different stores that will help you achieve this look. They also have ones based on upcoming holidays, like the most recent was for St. Patrick's Day. There is always something for everyone.
If you also want to discover new products for your collections, it's possible with Want Locker. There is a "browse" section and it will compile all these products that different users have saved to their own collections. Additionally, there's a section called "explore" and this allows you to see a huge list of different companies and brands, allowing you to find new and interesting things to save.
When you find yourself consistently inspired/saving products from one specific user, you can click follow and all the products they're saving are put into one space on the site. I love the styles of Kristine Locker, founder of Want Locker, and Hannah Detwiler, Social Media Manager of Want Locker, so I always see what they're shopping for.
Socials
Another thing Want Locker does well is their social media. I think especially their presence on Instagram and TikTok has gotten them a lot of traction and leads. I find myself always watching their content because they do a good job at highlighting not only their business but also integrating that with pop culture. You can find content like "How we would style Daisy + Kelsey A. for the final rose ceremony" and "Cool girl ERAS tour outfits." They also use their platform to help users upgrade their shopping experience by creating content like "Cool Girl Brands you need to know about", "4 fashion trends at Coachella 2024", and "Shopping PSA: J. Crew annual sale." I also appreciate their content about what it's like working for Want Locker and a bit of content about being the CEO of Want Locker. As a business student interested in fashion & marketing, I find it super interesting, especially as a junior starting to think about where I want to take my career once I graduate.
I also love the idea of creating a community with the platform. Even in a completely tech-based company, they are still working to create face-to-face experiences for their users. For example, they recently put on an event called "the Locker Thrifiting Club" at the Melrose Trading Post. Additionally, they had past events like "The Locker Walking Club." This adds to the user experience and allows them to meet the team behind their favorite shopping tool. This allows the company to build customer loyalty and continue to grow. (Boston event soon?)
Everyone needs to download the extension and get shopping in this innovative way. Find my profile @juliajjkim :))
